Gold Coast Outfitters, LLC was founded in September 2023 on a simple belief: fishing rods should be designed with intention, not compromise. That belief comes from a lifetime on the water, shared between a father and son who grew up hunting, fishing, and learning the value of good tools—often passed down the same way the stories were.
Tony’s roots trace back to the Amish country of Pennsylvania, where hunting, fishing, and camping weren’t hobbies—they were traditions passed down by his father, grandfather, and uncles. Some of his earliest and fondest memories were built around campfires, where days hunting turned into stories told and retold, each one growing a little larger with every telling. Those campfire stories were earned the hard way—by walking riverbanks and pond edges, hunting the forests and fishing for bass and perch with a white fiberglass Zebco combo and nightcrawlers dug up after summer thunderstorms. The gear was simple, but the lessons were lasting: patience, feel, and respect for equipment that does its job. And as for hunting stories, Scot was born during opening weekend of archery season. Perhaps that explains why Scot fell in love with the same traditions as his dad.
That foundation followed the family south in the late 1990s, eventually landing them in the Rio Grande Valley and on the waters of the Lower Laguna Madre. With a Baymaster 2150 and an early start to most mornings, chores often took a back seat while Tony and Scot chased redfish and trout with a clear purpose—learn the water, read conditions, and adapt. Many of those fish were still swimming at sunrise and on the grill by dinner.
Scot later left for Texas A&M and returned with a degree, a more technical mindset, and an even stronger pull toward the water. His fishing memories are precise: the smell of freshwater, casting near Zook’s Flour Mill in Pennsylvania, the unmistakable orange of his dad’s tackle box, and lessons learned early—like his uncle’s stern reminder to keep your toes out of snapping-turtle territory.
Scot eventually bought his first boat, a 1988 16-foot Dargel Skooter, that became both a classroom and a proving ground. Like anyone who appreciates a classic truck or car, Scot learned that performance, reliability, and balance don’t happen by accident—they come from understanding every component and how it works together.
One Christmas, a rod-building kit changed everything. What began as curiosity turned into a relentless pursuit of better performance. Scot became focused on balance, weight reduction, ergonomics, and material selection—how every component affects sensitivity, fatigue, and control. Teaming up with his dad, Tony, the two shared a clear vision: modern anglers deserve purpose-built rods designed for specific species, techniques, and environments—not generic, one-size-fits-all tools.
That vision became Gold Coast Outfitters, LLC—an American fishing rod manufacturer built on tradition, refined through experience, and driven by performance.
Today, Gold Coast Outfitters crafts custom and semi-custom fishing rods engineered for precision, comfort, and reliability—built to fuel a deep passion for the outdoors, create lasting memories, and carry forward time-honored traditions.
